Neutral Entity Dialog
The neutral entity dialogue was written to be voice acted for and used when the player had an average (neutral) score. I had to work on keeping the doctor’s voice consistent and make sure that it could flow between the good and bad dialogue as the player improved or got worse. I also worked on keeping the voice more neutral/passive aggressive rather than straight up rude or too high praising and out of character.
Single Player
Intro Dialogue:
“We meet again. I see you’ve made it through my previous challenges. Good for you, you managed to pick up a few items. What an accomplishment. It’s time to pick up the pace. I have some new activities for you to try and likely fail at. At least this will be entertaining to watch. I’d wish you luck but it won’t help you anyway.”
Completion of Level Dialogue:
“Wow, you completed all the tasks. You of all people? How is that even possible? Well, perhaps just luck. We’re going to do this again, a retest of sorts. Get ready.”
“According to my notes, you shouldn’t have made it this far. People like you usually don’t, they crash and burn. So yes, it’s a success for now but soon enough, you too will fall. It’s only a matter of time.”
“Hmm, you made it through these tasks as well. Chances are slim but maybe there’s a glimmer of potential in you. Again, the chances are slim. Very, VERY, slim. Let’s see, continue to the next phase.”
“You did it! That’s good but come on, who couldn’t do this? Oh well, at least this is an improvement for you. Carry on.”
Correct Item Chosen:
You actually found *correct item.* Amazing.
Hmm. You’re doing better than my tests predicted.
That…wasn’t horrible. Huh. Carry on.
You found it. You’re learning, I see. Don’t get too excited, you’ve got a long way to go.
Yeah, you got *item.* What do you want, a parade? Just keep moving.
You did good! For you.
Correct. How long do you think this lucky streak will last?
That *item* may as well have walked up to you but you did find it, so that’s good.
Yes, you did it. You finally completed a task a chimp could do. What an accomplishment.
Maybe you’re not as useless as I thought.
Incorrect Item Chosen:
How does that look anything like what I asked you to get for me? Try again.
WRONG. It’s a simple task and you can’t even complete it. Or can you? Prove your worth.
A slug could do this faster than you. But that’s an improvement for you. Congratulations.
If you can’t get this right, what can you do? Maybe you can get *next item.* Go on, go find it.
What is this? I’ll tell you, it’s not what I asked you to get. Get it right next time.
No. Stop acting like a failure, you can do better than this.
Good thing you don’t live in the wild, you would’ve died a thousand times over.
If you can’t do this, what *can* you do?
I expected better. Just kidding, this is exactly what I expected.
Failed again. Why are you always like this?
Multiplayer
Intro Dialogue
“I see you both have made it through my previous challenges. Good for you, you’ve managed to pick up a few items. What an accomplishment. It’s time to pick up the pace. I have some new activities for you two to try and likely fail at. At least this will be entertaining to watch. I’d wish you luck, but it won’t help either of you anyway.”
Completion of Level Dialogue:
“You did good…compared to that withering mess over there.”
“I can’t believe you’re doing well. You weren’t my first bet. Or my second.”
“Good, you’re done *finally*. But it’s not over yet, so don’t get too excited.”
“You’ve made it through the challenge. Barely, but it’s something.”
“Hmm. Unlike my other subject, you were successful. Strange. Let’s move on and see how you hold up.”
“So far so good. Well, I wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘good,’ but you’re better than the other subject.”
“Wow, you (of all people) won. You see how low my standards are?”
“You’re improving. It’s a miracle.”
